Blog-9: Defining Communities

I belong to the Detroit Tigers Baseball fan community. This community stretches far beyond Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play it comprised of fan who share their enthusiasm with each other were ever they meet another fan and the community is constantly growing as the season progress.
Work Place Gear

In the work place the Tiger community is thriving when any one from the custodian to the CEO of the corporation are both wearing Tiger shirts. This may be the only time the custodian has an opportunity to speak with the CEO, they strike up a conversation the CEO said to the custodian “did you see that game last night when Justin Verlander came within four outs of another no-hitter, when the Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2.”

In my local Meijer store; our Tiger community sometime gets in the same line at the checkout counter and discuss the Tiger’s most current games, stats and standings. Just the other day I was standing in the checkout line and a man I came to know as Roger was standing behind me with a Detroit Tiger baseball shirt on. I stated “were doing well this year in the American Lead central division.” Roger replied “yes we are were number one and still gaining momentum.” We both continued our conversation about the team until all my grocery were bag and the cashier had had enough about Tiger Baseball.
Yes the Detroit Tigers Baseball fan community is growing as the season progress. Can this be, need I dare say it “Bless You Boys.”

Blog-8: My Imaged Public Art Park

I imagine my own public art project to represent a community in the Detroit area that’s near Comerica Park, Fox Theater and Ford Field. This is an excellent location to show off Detroit and its community with the incredible imitative art talents.

Just imagine as your coming down Woodward you see a huge complex that appears to be a work of art but also a building with a Detroit Public Schools bus park in from of it. This new building house an art and science theater, kid’s hands on museum, stages where the community can come and put on community plays. I would call the build Detroit Community Art Metropolis.

Next to the Detroit Community Art Metropolis would be a giant water fountain that shoots up and has an art sculpture in the center of the fountain and band stage would be built next to it. When the weather is nice the community comes out to listen to local musicians and school children put on musical for the community. I would call it the Fountain of Youth Park.

I would build a chess park on long Woodward and call it Chess Park. This would be place where all ages can come and learn the game of chess. People could come and have friendly chess matches. There would be community chess tournaments held all through the summer. Sometimes that would be professional chess tournaments where the best in the world and the community would come to compete from my newly invented Check Mate Trophy and $100,000 to the winner. No one would be a looser we would have local businesses sponsor prizes for all the participants. The chess park would be a good way for local Detroiter's and people coming into catch a Tiger or Lions game or Concert at the Fox to take in the people and personality of Detroit.

Blog-7: Most Interesting Blogs

I have two favorite blog post ones by Antranette Waller (Comp 106 Blogs) with her “Interview of a Detroiter” blog post; my second favorite blog post is by Kara Vilemaire (My Hectic Life) with her “Detroit in the Lime Light” blog post. Both blogs keep me engaged as a reader and I could picture mentally the message they were conveying through their blog post.

“Interview of a Detroit” blog post took me on a journey of a young southern couple’s Pilgrimage to Detroit in the mid-1960s and their experiences onto more recent times. Ms. C.J.’s who was being interviewed described hope and disappointment as her experiences of Detroit that has taken place during a 40yr period of time. The couple had great hopes and dreams when first moved to Detroit in the 60’s and obtained them by working the in booming automotive industry and enjoying the vibrant business community that was comprised of many African American businesses.

“Detroit in the Lime Light” blog post was different because it linked ethnic foods such as Greek cuisines, Polish cuisines and the Eastern Market with its many specialty food products with Detroit’s hope for a better day. I found this blog insightful and inspiring for Metro Detroit’s like me that there’s hope for Detroit if you look for it. The description of the many cultures projected the city with a positive imagery. I have to admit the references of all the food made me a little hungry and the reference of the Eastern Market made me won’t to visit it soon with my children. I guess Detroit still has much to offer.
