Blog-6 Rebuilding Detroit
If I had free rein to rebuild part of Detroit; I would work on the crime rate especially violent crime.
Crime in Detroit has been out of hand for over twenty years, but I haven’t seen so much violent crime as in this month of August. I personally afraid to enter Detroit for my safety and there is good reason. People are being killed and attacked at the gas station while putting fuel in their automobiles. On Monday August 15 within 24 hours there were six murders. Detroit is the second most dangerous place in the nation on Flint has a higher rate of murders and violent crime. Businesses are afraid to come into Detroit because of the crime rate and the affect that it has on their insurance premiums.
Parents are afraid to allow their children to play outside. Many families that can afford to leave Detroit have left. I was watching the new one night this month and a family had moved back to Detroit for only a month, home had been burglarized twice. A couple days ago a woman was hit from behind got out the car and asked the other driver for insurance information and was brutally beaten in front of video cameras. If I was in charge of Public Safety in Detroit, I would triple the police force by asking for assistance from the State and Federal Government. I would also deputize citizens to assist with patrols and flood the air waves with ads that showed how the citizens of Detroit were not going to stand for violent crime in the city in longer.
